Article R4127-361 of the French Public Health Code

As soon as circumstances require, the midwife must offer to consult a doctor.

She must accept any consultation with a doctor requested by the patient or her relatives.

In either case, she may suggest the name of a doctor but must take account of the patient’s wishes and accept, unless there is a serious reason, the doctor suggested to her.

If the midwife does not feel that she should agree with the choice expressed by the patient or her relatives, she may withdraw when she considers that continuity of care is assured.

She does not owe anyone an explanation for her refusal.

Dès que les circonstances l’exigent, la sage-femme doit proposer la consultation d’un médecin.

Elle doit accepter toute consultation d’un médecin demandée par la patiente ou son entourage.

Dans l’un et l’autre cas, elle peut proposer le nom d’un médecin mais doit tenir compte des désirs de la patiente et accepter, sauf raison sérieuse, la venue du médecin qui lui est proposé.

Si la sage-femme ne croit pas devoir souscrire au choix exprimé par la patiente ou son entourage, elle peut se retirer lorsqu’elle estime que la continuité des soins est assurée.

Elle ne doit à personne l’explication de son refus.
