Article R4127-58 of the French Public Health Code

The doctor consulted by a patient being treated by one of his colleagues must respect :

– the interests of the patient, in particular by dealing with any emergency situation ;

– the free choice of the patient who wishes to consult another doctor.

The doctor consulted must, with the patient’s agreement, inform the treating doctor of his findings and decisions. If the patient refuses, the doctor must inform the patient of the consequences of this refusal.

Le médecin consulté par un malade soigné par un de ses confrères doit respecter :

– l’intérêt du malade en traitant notamment toute situation d’urgence ;

– le libre choix du malade qui désire s’adresser à un autre médecin.

Le médecin consulté doit, avec l’accord du patient, informer le médecin traitant et lui faire part de ses constatations et décisions. En cas de refus du patient, il doit informer celui-ci des conséquences que peut entraîner son refus.
