Article R4127-63 of the French Public Health Code

Without prejudice to the provisions applicable to health establishments providing the public hospital service, the doctor who takes charge of a patient during hospitalisation must notify the practitioner designated by the patient or the patient’s relatives. He must keep him informed of the essential decisions with which this practitioner will be associated as far as possible.

Sans préjudice des dispositions applicables aux établissements de santé assurant le service public hospitalier, le médecin qui prend en charge un malade à l’occasion d’une hospitalisation doit en aviser le praticien désigné par le malade ou son entourage. Il doit le tenir informé des décisions essentielles auxquelles ce praticien sera associé dans toute la mesure du possible.
