In the absence of a doctor, the nurse is authorised, after recognising a situation as an emergency or psychological distress, to implement emergency care protocols, previously written, dated and signed by the doctor in charge. In this case, the nurse performs the necessary precautionary acts until a doctor intervenes. These actions must be the subject of a written, dated and signed report, given to the doctor and appended to the patient’s file.
In the event of an emergency and outside the scope of the protocol, the nurse decides what action to take until a doctor can intervene. He or she takes all measures within his or her power to direct the patient to the most appropriate care structure for his or her condition.
