Article R4312-23 of the French Public Health Code

The practice of the nursing profession involves the drawing up by the professional, in accordance with the observations he is able to make, of certificates, attestations and documents the production of which is prescribed by legislative and regulatory texts.

These documents must be written legibly in French, dated, enable the professional from whom they originate to be identified and be signed by him or her. The nurse may provide the patient with a translation in the patient’s own language.

Nurses are prohibited from making or encouraging fraudulent use of these documents, as well as drawing up documents of convenience.

L’exercice de la profession d’infirmier comporte l’établissement par le professionnel, conformément aux constatations qu’il est en mesure d’effectuer, de certificats, attestations et documents dont la production est prescrite par les textes législatifs et réglementaires.


Ces documents doivent être rédigés lisiblement en langue française et datés, permettre l’identification du professionnel dont ils émanent et être signés par lui. L’infirmier peut en remettre une traduction au patient dans la langue de celui-ci.


Il est interdit à l’infirmier d’en faire ou d’en favoriser une utilisation frauduleuse, ainsi que d’établir des documents de complaisance.
