Article R434-14 of the French Code governing the entry and residence of foreign nationals and the right of asylum

The diplomatic or consular authority in whose district the applicant’s family lives is immediately informed of the submission of the application for family reunification by the services of the French Office for Immigration and Integration and, as soon as the application for a long-stay visa is submitted, immediately carries out any checks of foreign civil status records that are requested of it.

L’autorité diplomatique ou consulaire dans la circonscription de laquelle habite la famille du demandeur est immédiatement informée du dépôt de la demande de demande de regroupement familial par les services de l’Office français de l’immigration et de l’intégration et procède sans délai, dès le dépôt de la demande de visa de long séjour, aux vérifications d’actes d’état civil étranger qui lui sont demandées.
