Article R4342-4 of the French Public Health Code

On medical prescription, or within the framework of an organisational protocol defined in this section, the orthoptist is authorised to :

1° Determining visual acuity and refraction, with or without dilatation, the medicines required for this being prescribed by the doctor;

2° Irrigate the eye and instil eye drops;

3° Collecting lacrimal secretions;

4° Carry out training sessions in the handling and fitting of ocular contact lenses and scleral lenses.

Sur prescription médicale, ou dans le cadre d’un protocole organisationnel défini à la présente section, l’orthoptiste est habilité à :

1° Déterminer l’acuité visuelle et la réfraction, avec ou sans dilatation, les médicaments nécessaires à la réalisation étant prescrits par le médecin ;

2° Procéder à l’irrigation de l’œil et instillation de collyres ;

3° Recueillir des sécrétions lacrymales ;

4° Réaliser les séances d’apprentissage à la manipulation et à la pose des lentilles de contact oculaire et des verres scléraux.
