Article R4534-31 of the French Labour Code

In order to prevent spoil, materials, tools or objects of any kind from falling into trenches more than 1.30 metres deep, the trenches must be surrounded by plinths at least 15 centimetres high or have a shoring system with components at least 15 centimetres above ground level.

Afin d’empêcher les chutes de déblais, de matériaux, d’outils ou d’objets de toute nature à l’intérieur des fouilles en tranchée de plus de 1,30 mètre de profondeur, celles-ci sont entourées de plinthes d’une hauteur de 15 centimètres au moins ou comportent un blindage dont les éléments constituants dépassent le niveau du sol d’une hauteur minimale de 15 centimètres.
