As stated in article R. 234-5 of the French Rural and Maritime Fishing Code, which reads as follows:
“When a person who keeps animals belonging to one of the species whose flesh or products are intended for human consumption plans to carry out medicinal product trials other than those mentioned in article R. 234-4, he must make a declaration to the prefect of the département where the trial is to be carried out. This declaration must indicate the conditions under which it will ensure, at its own expense, that the animals to be tested and their products are destroyed in an establishment mentioned in article L. 226-9.
An order by the Minister for Agriculture specifies the content of the declaration and the deadline by which it must be sent to the Prefect. “
