The Board comprises :
1° Ten members, appointed for a renewable period of three years by order of the Minister for Health on the basis of their scientific expertise in the field of health products, on the proposal of the Chief Executive Officer and following a call for candidates made by the Agency;
2° Six leading scientists, including foreign scientists, appointed for a renewable period of three years by order of the Minister for Health on the basis of their scientific expertise in the field of health products, on the advice of the Minister for Research.
Appointments made in accordance with 1° and 2° provide the Scientific Advisory Board with specific expertise in the field of healthcare products, particularly in relation to medical devices, in vitro diagnostic medical devices and epidemiology.
The chairmen of the committees provided for in Article R. 5322-14 and any other person whose presence the Chief Executive Officer or the Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board considers useful may attend meetings of the Advisory Board.
The chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board is appointed from among the members mentioned in 1° and 2° by order of the Minister for Health, made after consulting the said Board.
If a seat falls vacant for any reason whatsoever, a new member is appointed under the conditions set out in 1° and 2° to complete the term of office of the member being replaced.
The duties of a member of the Scientific Advisory Board are performed free of charge. They are entitled to travel and subsistence allowances under the conditions laid down in the regulations applicable to civil servants.
The Scientific Advisory Board meets at least three times a year when convened by its Chairman, or at the request of the Managing Director, or at the motivated initiative of at least one third of its members. The agenda is set by its chairman.
