Article R6153-18 of the French Public Health Code

An intern who is obliged to cease his duties for health reasons may benefit, at the end of the leave mentioned in articles R. 6153-14 to R. 6153-17, from additional unpaid leave of a maximum duration of twelve months if it is recognised by the medical committee that his incapacity is temporary.

If, at the end of this new twelve-month leave, the medical committee considers that the person concerned cannot resume his duties, they are terminated.

L’interne contraint de cesser ses fonctions pour raisons de santé peut bénéficier, à l’issue des congés mentionnés aux articles R. 6153-14 à R. 6153-17, d’un congé supplémentaire non rémunéré d’une durée maximale de douze mois s’il est reconnu par le comité médical que son incapacité est temporaire.

Si le comité médical estime, le cas échéant à l’issue de ce nouveau congé de douze mois, que l’intéressé ne peut reprendre ses fonctions, il est mis fin à celles-ci.
