The regulating doctor, working under the conditions defined in article R. 6315-3, decides on the appropriate response to the request for care.
The regional health agency determines the conditions under which patients may be transported to a place of consultation when they are unable to travel by their own means.
Apart from cases involving urgent medical assistance, the regulating doctor may give medical advice, particularly therapeutic advice, which may lead to a prescription for medication over the telephone. He may also issue such a prescription in situations requiring the urgent adaptation of a previous prescription. When the prescription requires a written order, it is sent to a pharmacy. The prescription, which is limited in duration and non-renewable, complies with the recommendations for good professional practice issued by the Haute Autorité de Santé (French National Authority for Health) relating to prescribing medication by telephone in the context of medical regulation.
