Article R742-1 of the French Code governing the entry and residence of foreign nationals and the right of asylum

The matter shall be referred to the liberty and custody judge for the purposes of extending the detention period by simple request from the administrative authority, under the conditions laid down in Chapter III, before the expiry, as appropriate, of the forty-eight hour period referred to in article L. 742-1 or the extension period ordered pursuant to articles L. 742-4, L. 742-5, L. 742-6 or L. 742-7.
The application is sent by any means to the registry of the competent court in accordance with the provisions of article R. 743-1.

Article R742-1

Le juge des libertés et de la détention est saisi aux fins de prolongation de la rétention par simple requête de l’autorité administrative, dans les conditions prévues au chapitre III, avant l’expiration, selon le cas, de la période de quarante-huit heures mentionnée à l’article L. 742-1 ou de la période de prolongation ordonnée en application des articles L. 742-4, L. 742-5, L. 742-6 ou L. 742-7.
La requête est adressée par tout moyen au greffe du tribunal compétent conformément aux dispositions de l’article R. 743-1.
