Article R742-2 of the French Code governing the entry and residence of foreign nationals and the right of asylum

The matter shall be referred to the juge des libertés et de la détention (liberty and custody judge) by the foreign national who requests that his or her detention be terminated pursuant to article L. 742-8 by simple petition, under the conditions laid down in chapter III.
The petition shall be sent by any means to the registry of the court with jurisdiction pursuant to article R. 743-1.

Article R742-2

Le juge des libertés et de la détention est saisi par l’étranger qui demande qu’il soit mis fin à sa rétention en application de l’article L. 742-8 par simple requête, dans les conditions prévues au chapitre III.
La requête est adressée par tout moyen au greffe du tribunal compétent en application de l’article R. 743-1.
