Article R742-8 of the French Labour Code

The National Conciliation Commission, which has its headquarters at the Ministry of the Merchant Navy, has jurisdiction over collective disputes affecting the entire national territory or several Directorates of Maritime Affairs.

Any regional or local dispute may be referred to it directly by the Minister responsible for the Merchant Navy, either on his own initiative or on the proposal of any Director of Maritime Affairs, or at the request of the parties or of one of them, taking into account the importance of the said dispute, the particular circumstances in which it occurred and the number of workers involved.

La commission nationale de conciliation, qui siège au ministère de la marine marchande, est compétente pour connaître des conflits collectifs intéressant l’ensemble du territoire national ou plusieurs directions des affaires maritimes.

Elle peut être saisie directement par le ministre chargé de la marine marchande, soit sur sa propre initiative, soit sur la proposition de tout directeur des affaires maritimes, soit à la demande des parties ou de l’une d’elles, de tout conflit conflit régional ou local, compte tenu de l’importance dudit conflit, des circonstances particulières dans lesquelles il s’est produit et du nombre des travailleurs intéressés.
