Article R8122-6 of the French Labour Code

Within the limits of his territorial constituency and within the framework of the directives and instructions of the Directorate General for Labour, the Regional Director for the Economy, Employment, Labour and Solidarity decides on the location and delimitation of the infra-departmental, departmental and inter-departmental inspection units.

Within each inspection unit, it decides on the number, location and boundaries of the inspection sections and, where appropriate, their sectoral or thematic scope.

It appoints the heads of the inspection units and assigns the labour inspectors to the inspection sections.

It may also create interdepartmental or regional services to ensure that the operation of the labour inspection system is adapted to the specific features of the region.
