Article R821-2 of the French Code governing the entry and residence of foreign nationals and the right of asylum

The services competent to carry out the checks referred to in the second paragraph of article L. 821-7 are the national police services or, in the absence of such services, the customs services or national gendarmerie units located at the entrance to French territory.

Les services compétents pour procéder aux contrôles mentionnés au second alinéa de l’article L. 821-7 sont les services de la police nationale ou, en l’absence de tels services, les services des douanes ou les unités de la gendarmerie nationale situés à l’entrée du territoire français.
