CHAPTER II: Municipal police

The mayor is responsible, under the administrative control of the representative of the State in the department, for the municipal police, the rural police and the execution of State acts relating to them.

The purpose of the municipal police is to ensure public order, safety, security and health. The municipal police of municipalities bordering the sea are exercised on the sea shore up to the water limit.

In the event of serious or imminent danger, such as the natural accidents provided for in 5° of article L. 2212-2, the mayor shall prescribe the implementation of safety measures required by the circumstances. He must inform the representative of the State in the department as a matter of urgency and inform him of the measures he has prescribed.
