Chapter I: Operating conditions.

The practice of dentistry involves the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of congenital or acquired diseases, real or assumed, of the mouth, teeth, maxillae and associated tissues, in compliance with the procedures laid down by the code of ethics of the profession referred to in article L. 4127-1.

Dental surgeons may prescribe all procedures, products and services necessary for the practice of dentistry.

Dental surgery students who have passed the fifth-year examination in France may be authorised to practise dentistry, either as a substitute or as an assistant to a dental surgeon.
