Article L4371-1 of the French Public Health Code

A dietician is any person who usually provides nutritional advice and, on medical prescription, participates in the nutritional education and rehabilitation of patients suffering from metabolic or eating disorders, by drawing up a personalised dietary assessment and appropriate dietary education. Dieticians contribute to the definition, evaluation and quality control of food served in the community, as well as to public health prevention activities in the field of nutrition.

Only persons holding the diplomas, certificates or titles mentioned in Article L. 4371-3 or holding the authorisation provided for in Article L. 4371-4 or mentioned in Article L. 4371-7 may practise the profession of dietician.
