Chapter II: Organisation of hospitals and universities.

Hospitals and university centres are health care centres where, with respect for patients, public medical, pharmaceutical and post-graduate teaching is organised, as well as, without prejudice to the remit of other research and teaching establishments, medical and pharmaceutical research and para-medical teaching. They are developed in accordance with the mission thus defined.

In towns with medical and pharmaceutical training and research units, the universities, as far as these units are concerned, and the regional hospital centres jointly organise all their services as hospital and university centres. The universities and the regional hospital centres retain their legal personality and their respective administrative bodies; they are required to enter into agreements to specify the strategic guidelines and the procedures for implementing the university hospital…

Two or more regional hospital centres within the same education authority may enter into an agreement with the university or universities in the education authority to set up a single hospital and university centre.

Agreements may be concluded by universities and by regional hospital centres, acting jointly, with other health establishments or public or private organisations likely to be involved in the various missions defined in article L. 6142-1.
