Section 3: Provisions relating to the training of volunteer fire fighters

All volunteer firefighters or volunteers on civic service with the firefighters benefit, from the start of their period of commitment, from initial training and, subsequently, from ongoing training.

Voluntary firefighters with training or experience may have it recognised with a view to being exempted in whole or in part from the initial or ongoing training mentioned in article L. 1424-37 or to sit competitive entrance examinations to the civil service.

For the entire duration of their commitment and, after termination of their commitment, for a period not exceeding twenty-four months, volunteer fire fighters who have completed the training enabling them to participate in missions of emergency first aid and care for people are deemed to meet the training conditions enabling them to provide first aid to injured or sick employees of the company in which they work. The training costs of volunteer firefighters constitute compulsory expenditure for the commune, the public establishment for inter-communal cooperation or the departmental or territorial fire and rescue service to which they belong.

The fire and rescue services contribute to the funding of training for volunteer fire brigade officers provided by their national public training establishment.
