Section 5: Rules governing the practice of the profession of optician-mutician

Opticians are identified by wearing a badge showing their surname, first name and professional title.

The first issue of multifocal corrective lenses incorporating presbyopia correction is subject to a medical prescription.

The refractive optician receives the patient within the confines of the optician’s shop or in a room adjoining it, designed to enable the patient to be cared for in conditions of sound and visual isolation and to ensure the confidentiality of information exchanged by the patient during the optical examination. The premises are equipped to ensure patient privacy.

Opticians shall refrain, outside their place of practice, from advertising or communicating to the public their ability to determine refraction.

The optician carries out all the measurements required for the manufacture of optical equipment. These measurements can be taken remotely.

The optician-mutician, whose professional residence is identified, may, at the request of the doctor or the patient, dispense corrective eye lenses and corrective lenses to patients in their own homes or admitted to public or private health or medico-social establishments.
