Subsection 3: Assessment of doses to the general public

Any estimate of doses to which the population is exposed takes into account doses resulting from external exposure to ionising radiation and from the incorporation of radionuclides. It is calculated for a representative person, based on scenarios that are as realistic as possible.

For the calculation of effective doses and equivalent doses, an order of the ministers responsible for radiation protection and labour defines, taking into account the effects of radionuclides on the various tissues and organs of the human body: 1° The calculation methods and weighting factors to be used ; 2° The conversion coefficient values for external exposure to ionising radiation; 3° The effective dose values incurred per unit of activity…
