Paragraph 1: Conditions for issuing approval.

Approval is granted to natural or legal persons who have : 1° The staff required to guarantee the presence on board any vehicle in service of a crew complying with the standards defined in article R. 6312-10 ; 2° Vehicles belonging to categories A, B, C or D mentioned in article R. 6312-8, which they use exclusively.

The persons making up the crews of the vehicles specially adapted for land medical transport mentioned in article R. 6312-8 belong to the following categories: 1° Holders of the ambulance driver’s State diploma instituted by the Minister for Health ; 2° Sapeurs-pompiers (fire fighters) who have completed the training provided for by decrees of the Conseil d’Etat (Council of State) to provide emergency assistance to the people mentioned in article…

Vehicles specially adapted for medical transport fall into the following categories: 1° Specially adapted vehicles: a) Category A: “ASSU” emergency ambulance; b) Category B: “VSAB” asphyxiated and injured rescue vehicle; c) Category C: ambulance; 2° Other vehicles used for land-based medical transport: – Category D: light medical vehicle. Vehicles used for medical transport are subject to the provisions of articles R. 318-2, R. 322-1, R. 322-3, R. 322-4, R. 322-6 to R. 322-9, R. 323-1, R. 323-2, R. 323-6, R. 323-23, R. 325-33 and R. 326-1 of the Highway Code.
