The role of the labour inspector is to provide advice and conciliation with a view to preventing and settling disputes.

Labour inspectors help to compile statistics on working conditions in the sector they are responsible for monitoring.

The Labour Inspectorate monitoring officer shall provide detailed reports on the application, throughout his district, of the provisions whose implementation he is responsible for monitoring. These reports shall mention accidents suffered by employees and their causes. They contain proposals for new provisions that would better ensure health and safety at work.

A summary report of all the communications from the labour inspection officers mentioned in article L. 8112-1 is published every year by the Minister responsible for labour.
