Subsection 2: Maximum number of apprentices

The maximum number of apprentices that may be taken on simultaneously in a company or establishment is set at two per apprentice master. Pursuant to article L. 6222-11, the apprentice master may also take on an additional apprentice, whose training is extended if he or she fails the examination.

The departmental employment and integration committee may grant individual exemptions from the two-apprentice limit where this is justified by the quality of the training provided in the company and the opportunities for professional integration in the branch in question. These exemptions are valid for a maximum of five years and are renewable.

For a given professional branch, an interministerial order, issued after consultation with the national professional advisory committee competent for the branch in question, may set ceilings for simultaneous employment, different from that provided for in the first paragraph of article R. 6223-6.
