Section 16: Hygiene measures.

Employers shall provide workers with a sufficient quantity of drinking water to ensure their personal cleanliness. Where it is impossible to install running water, a drinking water tank of sufficient capacity shall be connected to the washbasins to enable them to be supplied. When workers take their meals on site, a refectory is provided for them. This room must meet the following requirements: 1° It must have a sufficient number of tables and chairs: 2° It must have at least one appliance for reheating or cooking food and a pantry of sufficient capacity to protect the food and, if possible, a refrigerator; 3° It must be kept in a perfectly clean condition.

Workers are provided either with premises where they can be accommodated in conditions that protect their health and safety in the event of weather conditions likely to affect them, or with worksite facilities that guarantee them equivalent conditions.

The employer shall provide workers with at least three litres of fresh drinking water per day per worker. National collective agreements specify the work situations, particularly climatic, in which hot non-alcoholic beverages are made available to workers free of charge.

On construction sites, toilets complying with the provisions of articles R. 4228-11 to R. 4228-15 are made available to workers.

Where the layout of the premises does not allow the construction site vehicles, refectory and toilet facilities provided for in articles R. 4534-140, R. 4534-142 and R. 4534-144 to be installed, the employer shall find premises or a site close to the construction site offering at least equivalent conditions.
