Home | French Legislation Articles | Part four: Health and safety at work | Book III: Work equipment and means of protection | Title II: Use of work equipment and protective equipment | Chapter III: Organisational measures and conditions of use of work equipment and personal protective equipment | Section 2: Installation of work equipment
Work equipment and its components are installed and must be capable of being used in such a way as to ensure their stability.
Work equipment shall be installed, laid out and used in such a way as to reduce risks to users and other workers. It and its components are installed in such a way as to enable workers to carry out production and maintenance operations in the safest possible conditions.
Sufficient free space must be provided between the moving parts of the work equipment and the fixed or moving parts of its environment.
The working environment is organised in such a way that any energy or substance used or produced can be supplied and removed safely.
Work equipment and its components must be installed in such a way that they do not impede the use of tools, accessories, equipment and machinery required to carry out installation and adjustment operations, or maintenance operations, which are the responsibility of the operator, in complete safety.
Work equipment shall be installed and, where necessary, equipped in such a way that workers can access and remain safely and without excessive fatigue in all places necessary for the use, adjustment and maintenance of such equipment and its components.
Passageways and aisles where workers can move between work equipment must be at least 80 centimetres wide. The profile and condition of the floor in these passageways and walkways must allow safe movement.
No permanent workstation may be located in the vicinity of a projection zone for hazardous materials.
