Section 3: Accommodation

Workers may not be accommodated in premises used for industrial or commercial purposes.

The habitable surface area and volume, within the meaning ofArticle R. 156-1 of the French Construction and Housing Code, of premises used for workers’ accommodation may not be less than 6 square metres and 15 cubic metres per person. The equipment and characteristics of the accommodation must be such as to maintain the interior temperature at at least 18°C and to avoid condensation and excessive temperatures. Electrical installations must comply with the regulatory provisions adopted in application of this part.

Each couple has one bedroom. Each person or couple has their own bedding and furniture, which is kept clean and in good condition.

Dormitory rooms are only occupied by people of the same sex. The number of people per room is limited to six. Beds must be at least 80 centimetres apart. Bunk beds are not permitted.

The floors and walls of the accommodation allow for efficient maintenance and are renewed whenever cleanliness is required.

The premises used for accommodation are kept in a constant state of cleanliness and hygiene.

Sinks with drinking water and adjustable temperature, as well as towels and soap, are provided for the workers in the accommodation, with one sink for every three people.

Toilets and urinals are installed near rooms intended for accommodation under the conditions set out in Articles R. 4228-11 et seq.

Temperature-controlled showers are installed near the accommodation rooms, in individual cubicles, with one cubicle for every six people.
