Section 6: Work in confined spaces

In wells, gas pipes, flues, smoke ducts, tanks, reservoirs, cisterns, pits, galleries and in places where it is not possible to ensure permanent compliance with the provisions of this chapter, work shall not be undertaken until it has been ascertained that there is no risk to the health and safety of workers and, where appropriate, the atmosphere has been purified and the contents emptied.

While the work is being carried out, ventilation is provided in accordance with the requirements of article R. 4222-6 or R. 4222-11, depending on whether the work is being carried out in a non-specific pollution area or a specific pollution area, in such a way as to maintain a healthy atmosphere and ensure that the air is constantly swept, without prejudice, in the case of underground work, to the provisions…
