The members of the regional sections and those of the sections with interdepartmental jurisdiction are appointed by order of the regional prefect. Article R2522-14 of the French Labour Code

Employers’ and employees’ representatives on the committees and sections are appointed on the proposal of nationally representative employers’ and employees’ trade unions. These organisations submit to the appointing authority lists containing twice as many names as there are posts to be filled. Before making the appointments, the Prefect will seek the opinion of the Regional or Departmental Director of Labour, Employment and Vocational Training.

Twice as many alternate members are appointed under the same conditions as the full members. They sit only in the absence of the full members. The full and alternate representatives of employers and employees within the regional, interdepartmental and departmental sections are chosen from among employers and employees who actually carry on their professional activity within the jurisdiction of these sections.
