Persons who, on 29 November 1997, were performing the duties of medical laboratory technician in a blood establishment without fulfilling the required conditions but who, on 23 May 2004, can provide proof of training in medical biology examinations performed in a blood establishment may continue to perform the same duties.

Persons who, on the date of promulgation of law no. 2013-442 of 30 May 2013 reforming medical biology, were performing the duties of medical laboratory technician and who do not hold one of the diplomas or training qualifications provided for in articles L. 4352-2 and L. 4352-3 may continue to perform the duties of medical laboratory technician.

Persons who, before entering the profession, obtained the evidence of formal qualifications or authorisation required to practise as a medical laboratory technician or falling within the scope of 1° of article L. 4352-3 and articles L. 4352-3-1 and L. 4352-3-2, as well as those who, not practising as such, obtained their evidence of formal qualifications less than three years ago, are required to register with the service or body designated…

Bodies issuing evidence of formal qualifications shall send such evidence to the department or body referred to in article L. 4352-4 in the form of certified information. Where available, this certified information serves as supporting documents for the fulfilment of the obligations laid down in article L. 4352-4.

When a medical laboratory technician is issued with an authorisation to practise or a declaration of provision of services, he must have the language skills required to practise the profession and those relating to the systems of weights and measures used in France. The language proficiency test must be proportionate to the activity to be performed and must be carried out once the professional qualification has been recognised.
