The regional unions contribute to the organisation of regional healthcare provision. The term of office of the members of the assemblies of the regional unions of healthcare professionals is five years, starting from the first meeting of the assembly. It may be renewed.

When the number of these professionals is equal to or greater than 20,000, they elect their representatives within the regional unions representing their profession. The list of professions that elect their representatives to the regional unions of health professionals and those that appoint their own representatives is set by order of the Minister for Health. This list is updated if necessary before the elections are held.
