Paragraph 1: Public policy

Employees resident or usually employed in an area affected by a natural disaster are entitled to leave, taken on one or more occasions, to take part in the activities of organisations providing aid to victims of natural disasters.

In an emergency, leave may be taken with twenty-four hours’ notice.

The duration of the leave cannot be deducted from the annual paid leave.

The employer may refuse to grant the leave if it considers that the absence is likely to have a detrimental effect on the smooth running of the company. The employer’s refusal is made after consulting the social and economic committee. Reasons must be given.
