When the right to remain on French territory has ended under the conditions laid down in Articles L. 542-1 or L. 542-2, the asylum application certificate may be refused, withdrawn or its renewal refused.The conditions for refusing, renewing and withdrawing the asylum application certificate are laid down by decree in the Conseil d’Etat.

A foreign national who has been definitively refused refugee status or subsidiary protection or who no longer benefits from the right to remain on French territory pursuant to article L. 542-2 and who cannot be authorised to remain on French territory on another basis must leave French territory, failing which he or she will be subject to a decision imposing an obligation to leave French territory.

When the foreign national’s right to remain has ended pursuant to b or d of 1° of article L. 542-2 and an obligation to leave French territory has been issued against him or her, the administrative authority may place him or her under house arrest or in detention under the conditions laid down in articles L. 752-1 to L. 752-4.
