Section 4: Closure of examination and request for reopening

For the application of article L. 531-36, applicants who wish to withdraw their asylum application must inform the French Office for the Protection of Refugees and Stateless Persons of this during the interview or by post.

When, following a decision to close the file, the interested party intends to request that the file be reopened or submits a new application, this must be preceded by a new registration with the competent prefect. The Prefect informs the applicant of the procedure applicable to him/her, pursuant to article L. 531-40. The deadline for submitting an application for reopening to the French Office for the Protection of Refugees and Stateless Persons is eight days from registration.When the application for reopening is incomplete the Office will inform the applicant, who will have four days to complete it.
