Article 109 of the French Code of civil procedure

The judge may grant the defendant time to call a guarantor.

The proceedings shall continue on the expiry of the period within which the guarantor may appear, unless the guarantee claim is decided separately if the guarantor has not been called within the period set by the judge.

Le juge peut accorder un délai au défendeur pour appeler un garant.

L’instance poursuit son cours à l’expiration du délai dont dispose le garant pour comparaître, sauf à ce qu’il soit statué séparément sur la demande en garantie si le garant n’a pas été appelé dans le délai fixé par le juge.
