Article 1303-4 of the French Code of civil procedure

If this change has given rise to a decision by a French court, the mention in the margin of the marriage record or the entry in the annexed civil register is made in accordance with the second, third and fourth paragraphs of Article 1294. In other cases, the Public Prosecutor of the place where the marriage record or the annexed civil register is kept shall make this mention or entry, at the request of the spouses or of one of them.

Si ce changement a donné lieu à une décision d’un tribunal français, la mention en marge de l’acte de mariage ou l’inscription au répertoire civil annexe est faite conformément aux deuxième, troisième et quatrième alinéas de l’article 1294. Dans les autres cas, le procureur de la République du lieu où est conservé l’acte de mariage ou le répertoire civil annexe fait procéder à cette mention ou à cette inscription, à la demande des époux ou de l’un d’eux.
