Article 1451 of the French Code of civil procedure

The arbitral tribunal shall be composed of one or more arbitrators in an odd number.

It shall be supplemented if the arbitration agreement provides for the appointment of an even number of arbitrators.

If the parties do not agree on the appointment of an additional arbitrator, the arbitral tribunal shall be completed within one month of the acceptance of their appointment by the arbitrators chosen or, failing that, by the supporting judge referred to in Article 1459.

Le tribunal arbitral est composé d’un ou de plusieurs arbitres en nombre impair.

Il est complété si la convention d’arbitrage prévoit la désignation d’arbitres en nombre pair.

Si les parties ne s’accordent pas sur la désignation d’un arbitre complémentaire, le tribunal arbitral est complété dans un délai d’un mois à compter de l’acceptation de leur désignation par les arbitres choisis ou, à défaut, par le juge d’appui mentionné à l’article 1459.
