Article 1486 of the French Civil Code

A spouse who may avail himself of the benefit of article 1483, second paragraph, does not contribute more than his emolument to the debts which entered the community under the head of the other spouse, unless they are debts for which he would have owed a reward.

L’époux qui peut se prévaloir du bénéfice de l’article 1483, alinéa second, ne contribue pas pour plus que son émolument aux dettes qui étaient entrées en communauté du chef de l’autre époux, à moins qu’il ne s’agisse de dettes pour lesquelles il aurait dû récompense.
