Article 18-1 of the French Civil Code

However, if only one of the parents is French, a child who was not born in France has the option of renouncing French nationality in the six months preceding his majority and in the twelve months following it.

This option is lost if the foreign or stateless parent acquires French nationality during the child’s minority.

Toutefois, si un seul des parents est français, l’enfant qui n’est pas né en France a la faculté de répudier la qualité de Français dans les six mois précédant sa majorité et dans les douze mois la suivant.
