Article 1828 of the French Civil Code

It may be stipulated that the tenant farmer shall relinquish to the lessor his share of the fleece at a price lower than the ordinary value;

That the lessor shall have a larger share of the profit;

That he shall have half of the milkings;

But it cannot be stipulated that the tenant farmer shall be liable for all the loss.

On peut stipuler que le métayer délaissera au bailleur sa part de la toison à un prix inférieur à la valeur ordinaire ;

Que le bailleur aura une plus grande part du profit ;

Qu’il aura la moitié des laitages ;

Mais on ne peut pas stipuler que le métayer sera tenu de toute la perte.
