Article 1879 of the French Civil Code

The commitments which are formed by a loan for use pass to the heirs of the one who lends, and to the heirs of the one who borrows.

But if one has lent only in consideration of the borrower, and to him personally, then his heirs cannot continue to enjoy the thing lent.

Les engagements qui se forment par le prêt à usage passent aux héritiers de celui qui prête, et aux héritiers de celui qui emprunte.

Mais si l’on n’a prêté qu’en considération de l’emprunteur, et à lui personnellement, alors ses héritiers ne peuvent continuer de jouir de la chose prêtée.
