Article 1880 of the French Civil Code

The borrower is obliged to take reasonable care of the custody and preservation of the thing lent. He may only use it for the purpose determined by its nature or by the agreement; all on pain of damages, if any.

L’emprunteur est tenu de veiller raisonnablement à la garde et à la conservation de la chose prêtée. Il ne peut s’en servir qu’à l’usage déterminé par sa nature ou par la convention ; le tout à peine de dommages-intérêts, s’il y a lieu.
