Article 1924 of the French Civil Code

Where the deposit being above the figure provided for in Article 1359 is not proved in writing, the person who is challenged as the depositary is believed to be the depositary on the basis of his declaration either for the fact of the deposit itself, or for the thing which was the object of the deposit, or for the fact of its restitution.

Lorsque le dépôt étant au-dessus du chiffre prévu à l’article 1359 n’est point prouvé par écrit, celui qui est attaqué comme dépositaire en est cru sur sa déclaration soit pour le fait même du dépôt, soit pour la chose qui en faisait l’objet, soit pour le fait de sa restitution.
