Article 27 of the French Code of Criminal Procedure

The gardes champêtres send their reports and minutes simultaneously to the mayor and, through the intermediary of the territorially competent national police or gendarmerie judicial police officers, to the public prosecutor.

This dispatch to the addressee must take place within five days at the latest, including the day on which they observed the fact, which is the subject of their minutes.

Les gardes champêtres adressent leurs rapports et leurs procès-verbaux simultanément au maire et, par l’intermédiaire des officiers de police judiciaire de la police ou de la gendarmerie nationales territorialement compétents, au procureur de la République.

Cet envoi au destinataire doit avoir lieu dans les cinq jours au plus tard, y compris celui où ils ont constaté le fait, objet de leur procès-verbal.
