Article 319 of the French Code of Criminal Procedure

If an accused person refuses to appear, a summons is served on him in the name of the law, by a bailiff appointed for this purpose by the president, and assisted by the force publique. The bailiff shall draw up a record of the summons and of the accused’s reply.

Si un accusé refuse de comparaître, sommation lui est faite au nom de la loi, par un huissier commis à cet effet par le président, et assisté de la force publique. L’huissier dresse procès-verbal de la sommation et de la réponse de l’accusé.
