Article 348-3 of the French Civil Code

Consent to adoption must be free, obtained without any consideration after the birth of the child and informed about the consequences of adoption, in particular if it is given with a view to full adoption, about the complete and irrevocable nature of the severance of the pre-existing parent-child relationship.

Consent to adoption is given before a French or foreign notary, or before French diplomatic or consular agents. It may also be received by the child welfare service when the child has been handed over to it.

Le consentement à l’adoption doit être libre, obtenu sans aucune contrepartie après la naissance de l’enfant et éclairé sur les conséquences de l’adoption, en particulier s’il est donné en vue d’une adoption plénière, sur le caractère complet et irrévocable de la rupture du lien de filiation préexistant.

Le consentement à l’adoption est donné devant un notaire français ou étranger, ou devant les agents diplomatiques ou consulaires français. Il peut également être reçu par le service de l’aide sociale à l’enfance lorsque l’enfant lui a été remis.
