Article 522 of the French Code of Criminal Procedure

The Police Court of the place where the offence was committed or ascertained, or the place of residence of the accused, shall also have jurisdiction.

The Police Court of the registered office of the company owning the vehicle shall also have jurisdiction in the event of a breach either of the rules relating to the loading or equipment of this vehicle, or of the regulations relating to land transport.

The police court of the place where the accused person disembarked, the port of registration of the vessel, the port where the vessel was taken or can be found or the administrative residence of the officer who recorded the offence, where the offence was committed on board a vessel, also has jurisdiction.

Articles 383 to 387 apply to the trial of offences under the jurisdiction of the police court.

Article 522

Est compétent le tribunal de police du lieu de commission ou de constatation de la contravention ou celui de la résidence du prévenu.

Est également compétent le tribunal de police du siège de l’entreprise détentrice du véhicule en cas de contravention, soit aux règles relatives au chargement ou à l’équipement de ce véhicule, soit aux réglementations relatives aux transports terrestres.

Est également compétent le tribunal de police du lieu du port de débarquement de la personne mise en cause, du port d’immatriculation du navire, du port où le navire a été conduit ou peut être trouvé ou de la résidence administrative de l’agent qui a constaté l’infraction, lorsque la contravention a été commise à bord d’un navire.

Les articles 383 à 387 sont applicables au jugement des infractions de la compétence du tribunal de police.
